Written @8:15 this morning at work! Slightly shoddy but didnt have the patience to sit on it. So here goes...
A face in the crowd Catches my eye Amidst voices loud Decibels high A distinct voice reaches my ears the spirited tone the clutter clears An animated face breaks the monotony A flicker of life amidst the corpses I see Interest evoked the eyebrow raised A specific direction now draws my gaze Stealthy glances & half-smiles shared With no words spoken Our souls are bared Casual introduction Tel nos. exchanged Interest & Intentions Mutually gauged A few drinks later Inhibitions break We manage to cast off the defences fake The tongues are loosened Voices get loud We barely notice the diminishing crowd A lift home, some coffee the ancient charade mild inebriation smashes the facade Urgent affection in physical display Logic suppresed Senses in play The morning after A stranger beside A hole in the stomach No place to hide Hasty farewells minds all a tangle Reason & emotion engaged in tiff & wrangle A day in stupor A sense of unreal Glazed look in the eye Not sure what you feel Soon the head takes control Brings in cold reason One swears off alcohol And is back at square one.
What stayed with you?
A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.
