I feel pride in introducing myself. I am Ashwath, aged 28, call name being Ashu. I am a lanky, a well built guy. This i realised after the dogs in the streets forget to bark, after they get a glimpse of me. For the past eight years, the only job i was into is finding a job. Well, i dont think i settle for any ordinary job, except for a white collar one. After all, isnt i a degree holder ? Well, to tell you the truth, i passed Bacheclor of Commerce(B.Com) with lowest marks possible. I dont think i need to provide you with my degree class. Should i ?
It seems the only organization which seems to benefit from my job search is the postal department. But i cannot understand why year after year, postal dept turns into losses in crores in spite of my tiny effort. I believe, the postal dept gets the major revenue from people like me and of my age, whose only pursuit is either / both job and love. Isnt that one of our(government) organization benefitting in the process ? I get a doubt sometimes whether Swami Vivekananda rightly estimated about the power of youth after foreseeing their contribution to postal organization ?.
I dont consider myself and people like me, are neglected by the government. We are in high demand by the dear servants of the nation on the eve of elections. I am personally dejected by the constitution's column which declares that assembly elections should be held for every 5 years. Hope some charismatic leader like Mr.Laloo Yadav will change that. Isnt he is sure, that he is going to come to power irrespective of the time span and irrespective of number of corruption cases against him ? Isnt he interested in people like us ? Hope that day will come soon.
As i attend interviews more often, the only knowledge i seem to get is about the landmarks in the city. I will be glad to share the experience of my last interview. In the days where there is a scarcity of appointment columns in the newspapers, one advertisement caught my eyes. The ad read "Job, irrespective of age. People with acting, singing skills preferred. No. of position - 1". Acting is not entirely new to me backed my singing ability pertained to bathrooms. The couple of roles i played in my college dramas will certainly add to my credential here. I knew at that time, these skills are essential for any cinema / TV serial actor. I need not have to tell you that i rephrased my resume to emphasize my acting and singing skills and sent in the next immediate postal delivery possible. Neither i was not surprised to get an interview call. The interview was held last Saturday afternoon. It was mentioned during the interview that, the interview process is conducted in two levels, the first being the written test where the candidates are screened followed by the oral interview where a single candidate is selected. When i entered the hall, i could see many candidates, not to mention some of my father's age. I then remembered the ad abstract "irrespective of age". I think i did fairly well in the written test. This i believed after i got selected for oral interview. Few questions i remember from my written test include,
1. Bill Gate's donations to various organizations is mainly for the sake of humanitarian basis scholarship to children poor people suffering from chronic diseases all of the above Well, i guess you know the answer. I think i choose d) to confuse the interviewer.
2. People with below gestures seem to have less conscious of their body with wide opened mouthrested on the backbent forwardhands on their face(busy thinking apparently) I choose, a) because i guess those are the people who yearn for food and are quite sure that they dont have any valuables like vallet or ornaments to take care of.
3. The young generation seem to revel inindian classical musicindian ghazalswestern music with heavy drumsbhajans Well i thought, this question is asked to test the candidate's level of understanding of the younger generation in terms of music especially of the elder candidates.
I guess there were couple of questions more.Anyway it was a good feeling that i got selected for the final interview. In addition to me there were 3 more candidates out of which one was of my father's age in the lobby outside the interviewer's room, all waiting for the final call from the interviewer. I acquainted with the elder of the candidate who seemed to be pale and fragile. I was the second of the candidates to attend the interview. I found the interviewer to be a guy of medium build, with heavy dark goggles. It was surprising that he didnt even look at me while i was entering. I wished him politely "Good Evening Sir". He requested me to take the chair.
Soon after my seating in the chair, the first question he asked me was "to recite a bhajan". This is the least question i expected. I somehow remembered a bhajan which my granny taught during school days and recited with utmost divinity possible. The next question asked to me was to describe my physical build. I told him that i am 6' 2", robust guy, to which he interrupted in the middle and said "you can leave now". He also informed that the selected candidate will be informed thru mail. I left the interviewer's room thanking him. The next candidate to be interviewed was the elderly one. While coming out, the elderly candidate requested me to provide my wrist watch. I graciously donated my wrist watch which my uncle presented for my 20th birthday, after seeing his bare hands. I had to wait till his interview gets over. While waiting outside, i could hear the cacophony in terms of a loud voice singing bhajan. I guess, the same question is asked to the elderly candidate. After few minutes, i could see the elderly candidate coming out with my wrist watch in hand. That is just the end of another interview for me.
Even after days, i did not know of my fate in the last interview i attended. Today morning i was waiting for a bus in the bus terminus while heading for another interview. A beggar approached me for alms with a platter in his hand. The face of the beggar seemed to be familiar to me on first look. The beggars bare eyes were flipping continously gazing at the horizon. Escorting him was a person singing loud bhajan. Yes, the bhajan is familiar, voice is familiar, look is familiar. He is none other than the elderly candidate i met in my last interview and marching ahead of him is my last interviewer.
So the result of my last interview is out. Any Jobs ?
What stayed with you?
A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.

A remarkable work of a young writer of Bangalore who incidently works for a worlds most famous company! I was fascinated to see the writing scills of this young man who studied in vernacular medium in a small village on the bank of Arabian sea! The story may not be a difference to the reader who incidently may be a job-looker but definitely he will also forgets the things for a span of 15 minutes by curiosity the author imparts thru-out in a smooth way. Anyway a nice writing of a promising author! Let's expect some booker for this young man some day! [ Reply to this ] From Ashwath Rao B's desk Email Ashwath Rao B 1 2 3 4 5 Total 2 ratings.
