just had a dream after seeing the Oscars and reading about why Lagaan didnt get the Oscars.I thought ..why do we need an Oscar at all ? once again random thoughts.. My writing is not attractive, im not into fancy writing, my words dont rhyme , they dont make sense. Sentences are left incomplete and abrupt.Usage of intellectual words are almost zilch.anyways ...
just had a dream after seeing the Oscars and reading about why Lagaan didnt get the Oscars. I thought ..why do we need an Oscar at all ?I dreamt of a scenario .. we had our own prestigious filmfare awards with, not the "Hollywood-Bollywood" copy style. There we value our own movies much more than the movies outside India. why not Lagaan be given for example the very prestigious Indian film award. Then we will call "juraasi park" or any other park movie for a foreign movie category and then not give it an award and then give some Nepal or Bhutan an award. But our filmfare "bollywood" "manikchand" awards we forget to adapt their concept and their idea behind their awards and the cultural scene..We only end up copying their american accent and style like "ladies and gentlemen please welcome ..blah blah"..
The Hindi movies awards is presented in American english accent style thats the irony. Our heroes try to look in some Pitt or Wilis modealways..not their own identity...atleast they try to sound like them..
Presentation ? Stage design presentation has never gone above silver paper and thermocol..just compare the technology and interface design Oscar has ..and just see our stage designs..haev u seen any sponsor banner behind oscars stage !! here we haev manikchand and what not written and that too in a very ugly way..don tellme film industry doesnt havemoney or there is no otehr way to get sponspors..or is it a matter of "Supari" :)
and yah not to forget the cameramen runnign up and down trhe main stage blockign the artist and the users view. And shaking all the time (MTV ISTYLE )and when a particular award by a life time achiever is received we suddenly have some babe in the main camera frame checking her hair out.Camera handling is an art ..lets learn.
Choregraphed dance sequences which shake not the crowd but the whole thermocol stage , the singer not even lip synching to their own music.., doesnt really make any sense..I had seen one performance of B.B.King a blues guitarist in one of the Oscars..around 80 musicians performed and then they announced in the end "please welcome now the youngest member of this band..Mr.B.B. King ", he was 85.His Live performance was like magic , noone knew what happned but only left them with moist eyes and good memories. .
Showmanship, presentation we should learn from them ..not adapt just their accent. Our performance ..i saw Lucky ali once trying to lip sync up with his won song and when the camera came close to his face he turned his back to the camera..good showmanship indeed!!
i feel ..let us value our films ..Have our own original Indian cultured filmfare awards , give awards to our films and let us be proud of it..then call so-called-foreign films..to be judged by usin the so called "foreign film category".Then we will say ..why not make films in hindi so that the judges can give u more points (as in case of lagaan")and there by help u in geeting the very prestigious indian cultured film fare awards.
This attitude of the white is injected right from the Britishers day and unfortunaltely till today.Like in hockey..Indians were champs..but never bothered to form a committee . so the whites formed a committee comprising mainly of their own people. Then they change the rules of the game drastically..Similarly with cricket..with the IT indursty, similarly with oscars and grammy and much more..it goes on..
this similarity we have to reconsider..and similarly we have to realise and react. its time.
What stayed with you?
A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.
