American Dreamer (This article has been read 58 times) Posted by JPRAST on May 08, 2003 (Thursday) Funny, how life can set stupid priorities,,,, Towers have fallen, wars been fought, People have starved, countries been bought. New diseases found, while old ones still kill, Imaginative children, doped up on pills. People killed daily in the name of their God, The Earth is more ruined, to give a few jobs. Still through all this darkness, and never ending sorrow, There is still one thing, I'll be sure of tomorrow. Whether our time on Earth is shorter than before, Whether we forget what living was for. I said I loved you, and that never changed, Even if life has left us astranged. I know I shouldn't miss you as much as I do, You've moved on with life and I know I should too. Each year life is different, and yet still the same, Each year I get sad at the sound of your name. I hope you are happy, that I truly mean, Still don't be angry, that you are my dream. Know that a dream is not real, won't kill like a war, It's just my way, of loving you more.

What stayed with you?

A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.

Your poem was quite strong until you threw love in there. Neways, good job... just need a certain degree of refinement.

I felt the same thing

Thankyou for your opinion. I guess what I was trying to convey is that even though such horrible things happen every day, something as trivial as a breakup could be in my thoughts more than such more important things. The poem is an expression of guilt. So in a way, I guess it "should" feel wrong, because that is the feeling expressed. I do understand what you mean though. Thanks for the input!!
