My take on Cinderella....with a twist
CinderEllen was just as sad as could be- It was the night of the Annual Ball don't you see?
She'd swept and she'd cleaned all the ashes and soot as her stepsisters laughed at the dirt on her foot.
"Oh", she lamented, when no one could hear. "How I wish they would flee for they cause me despair!"
But nothing mattered to them as they dressed for the dance. CinderEllen said she'd like to go.
"Oh fat chance!"
They came down the stairs in their gowns of fine threads and CinderEllen's heart was in pieces from all that they'd said.
"You're nothing, your ugly, you never will be as pretty as us now away with thee!"
So off to the ball did they go, the evil three, while CinderEllen said "Why is it them and not me?"
She sat in an old wooden chair by the fire and dreamed of the night with it's joy and desire.
A great puff of smoke full of colors galore appeared in the room right in front of the door.
CinderEllen, she screamed as she did not understand, that this was her Godmother straight from FairyLand.
"Come to me my dear one I have something for you. You will be quite happy, this I know is true."
"Who are you?" she asked as her eyes grew very wide.
"I'm your FairyGodmother," she said as she laughed deep inside.
CinderEllen did not know if this was a dream but it all seemed real and her dress now did gleam!
"My goodness", she said with a smile so bright. "How did you work magic on my clothes this night?"
"CinderEllen," she said as she put down her wand, "You're going to the ball but you can't stay too long."
Out on the lawn her heart did soar as she saw a great carriage with four horses -- maybe more!
How lovely she looked as she sat down inside and FairyGodmother did give her some rules to abide.
"Be home by the time the Great Clock strikes midnight or you'll change back to your rags and will cause a great fright."
CinderEllen, she listened and said she'd obey for she didn't want anything to ruin this day!
So off did she go in her carriage that night to the Ball of her dreams, to the Dream of her Life!
Her gown of white satin was too lovely for words and as she entered the Ball not a peep could be heard.
"Who's that?" said the Prince as she captured his eye. "I don't know my dear son," was the King's reply.
But he heard not a word as he walked towards the one who'd captured his heart before the night had begun.
The women cast glares at CinderEllen of hate, for she'd stolen their treasure -- she'd stolen their date!
He took her in his arm and it was the perfect fit and as their eyes locked they knew that this was "it".
The night flew so quickly as they danced every dance. She tore herself from his arms when at the clock she did glance.
It started to chime and the hands hit midnight and she fled from the Ball full of fear and off fright.
"My dear one, don't leave me, I don't know your name!"
"It matters not, my dear Prince for it's all been in vain."
She ran down the stairs and her shoe did get caught and it fell of her foot but it mattered not.
The carriage was waiting and she rushed right inside as they began their journey -- a very fast ride.
She got home just in time as her dress turned to rags and she sat and she waited for the three evil hags.
"Oh what a night," they did say, "what a waste of our time. For the Prince danced with no one but one measly slime."
"And no one even knew her, for she was not supposed to attend. I do hope that we never see her again."
CinderEllen sat smiling in her chair as she knew it was of her they were speaking as her happiness grew.
For the first time in her life she felt special and real and she knew deep inside the Prince's heart she did steal.
"Well, what are you doing? Help us undress. It's been a heck of a night and we are so stressed!"
CinderEllen unzipped them and helped them for bed while thoughts of her Prince danced inside of her head.
Two days later they came, a knock at the door. "Get up CinderEllen and then clean the floor!"
A man and the Prince were waiting outside and they asked who in the house did reside.
"Just us," the three said as they squirmed with glee, and the Prince turned to CinderEllen saying, "What about thee?"
"Oh, she's just a servant, a peasant, nothing more. You don't want her for she's such a bore."
"It's ordered by the Prince," said the man by his side, "that ALL ladies try this slipper wherever they reside."
So the Stepmother first sat in the old wooden chair and her foot was so smelly they all gasped for air!
The sister's sat down almost breaking the seat and there was no way the small shoe would fit their big feet!
"Now you," said the Prince with kindness in his eyes, "Sit down my dear one so the slipper you may try."
CinderEllen was frightened, for what would they say when they saw that the slipper would fit right away?
"You Majesty, I think that it's a waste of your time, for you see I'm a peasant, no good for thine."
But she had to sit down in that small wooden chair as they slipped off her shoe so that they could compare.
It slid on so gently, such a perfect fit and the three evil hags broke out in a fit!
"No! This cannot be," said the Stepmother aloud, "for she is just nothing, of her I'm not proud!"
When, alas, right before all their eyes they did see CinderEllen transform into the Beauty she'd been!
The Prince took her hand as he gazed in her eyes. "I have found my true love, to be with for all time."
He led her out of the house to his coach as the Stepmother and Stepsisters were very reproached.
"Goodbye, you three ladies, and I use that term to be polite. For you shant have CinderEllen again in your sight."
Off they did go, CinderEllen beside herself and they lived Happily Ever After.....Did you expect something else?
What stayed with you?
A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.
