Everybody hurts, but so what?

This happens to be a part of an exchange of thought with a friend over email. So, obviously, it is minus a context and potentially cryptic. But then, isn't life?

Anyway, my guess is that most of you will hook on without difficulty. So, go ahead and enjoy going through someone else's mail. Unlike someone on this forum who resisted the temptation.

After all, some of us are more human than the rest ;-)

Yeah, okay, its all chemicals. Yeah, alright hurt is temporal. Its all gonna pass. Theres going to be something to learn for the future. And even the motivation will come back. We know all that. We have all been through these things before. Every time I am sad about anything, I sit and think about the last time I was sad about something , and how it wasnt worth it. How silly it appeared once I had gotten over it, put it in context. But I would rather let that happen at its own pace, I think. I wouldnt like to rule over the chemicals. Its a better feeling rolling with the punches, being a victim of the chemicals, being human.

You can prevent yourself from repeating big blunders, of course, having made a few earlier and having learnt from them. But loving someone is not a blunder - far from it. And its more than hormonal. Its probably one of the only things that make sense in this crazy world. It makes life worth living. And that probably answers your query about motivations. To do it again and again, with or without the hurt, like you did the last time. Love - because your heart tells you to, and though the heart is a vulnerable organ, it keeps you ticking, makes the mornings worth getting up for. And best of all, even when you dont love, the hope to love one day, fills in those empty evenings, the ones which are never-ending.

You might disagree, but then you have a right to. But all your Nietschian "extreme pain = extreme ecstasy", all your Gitaesque, " We only have the right to act, not expect" and all other philosophical insights - appear, most of the times, like weapons to handle pain. To explain away the idiosyncrasies of the Master. How come we only need them when we are sad. Something doesnt sound right there.

And it joins back the motivation question, like a Mobius Strip. If you HAVE decided to live, and hate questioning that, then you have to give a reason. If emotions are a farce, a hormonal alchemy, then you will take the other option. Creating artificial targets, like "writing the best thesis", "owning the sportiest car", "travelling the most gorgeous locations". Nothing wrong with that. A life which revolves around you, the individual. Somehow, it doesnt sound like the profound reason for which we were created. Even that need not deter you. However, it does deter me. Lets not pretend that man is not a social animal. Because, God forbid, I dont want to see one complex chemical leave your Medulla, hit your Cerebellum , and make you want to share the happiness you "earned for yourself", with someone else, the girl with daisies on her dress who just walked into the library hall.

Because, then the house of cards will come crashing down.

What stayed with you?

A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.

Azu, so you did post this. Actually even live2read feels a bit haunted now, can't come in without a little knot in my stomach. If not chemicals, then what? "Dil hi to hai na saang-o-khisth, dard se bhar na aaye kyun" [ Reply to this ]

Hmm Sounded much too familiar (articulated in a different way obviously) and consequently endearing :). Read another piece on another website propounding something extremely similar. Funny how the pattern keeps on repeating. Thanks for sharing!! Seems [ Reply to this ] From Ajay Gupta's desk Email Ajay Gupta 1 2 3 4 5 Total 5 ratings.
